ISO 9606 Welding graduation at MIOG

The Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas National Polytechnic (MIOG-NP), in partnership with CTCWeld Training & Consulting, celebrated the graduation of 14 skilled welders on 14th August 2025. These graduates completed the 3rd Cohort of the International Certified Welder (ISO 9606) Program, earning official certification from the South African Institute of Welding (SAIW).

This achievement marks a significant milestone, not only for the graduates but also for the Institute’s mission to produce world-class talent for the global market. Over the course of the program, students
successfully mastered two of the most critical welding techniques: Shielded Metal Arc Welding (111 SMAW) and Metal Active Gas Welding (135 MAG), equipping them with skills that meet the highest
international standards.

The ISO 9606-1 certification is recognized worldwide, opening opportunities for graduates to participate in high specification projects across various industries, including oil & gas, construction, and manufacturing. Many of the graduates expressed their optimism for the future, noting that the certification positions them to secure jobs and contracts both locally and internationally.
Already, one of the graduates has taken bold steps by launching his own welding and fabrication business, creating employment opportunities, and showcasing the transformative power of
technical training.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, the MIOG-NP Deputy Director Prof Kimani noted, “These graduates are a shining example of what it means to combine talent with opportunity. At MIOG-NP, our mission is to train, test, and certify professionals who can compete and excel globally. This certification is a passport to global opportunities.”

This graduation is a testament to the MIOG spirit, where training extends beyond the classroom to unlock opportunities, create jobs, and build futures. With the September intake still open, aspiring welders have the chance to join this prestigious program and position themselves for success on the global stage.
