MIOG_GHANA VISIT_NAIROBI 1

Dr. Nancy Kosgei, Director, MIOG-NP, hosted a delegation from the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) of Ghana on 30th September 2026 at Kenpipe Plaza. The visit formed part of the Authority’s benchmarking mission to Kenya.

The delegation was led by Mr. Andy Opoku, Director, Internal Audit. NPA Ghana is exploring the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for training in the petroleum downstream sector.

The visit reinforces MIOG-NP’s growing profile as a regional benchmark for petroleum sector skills development. In particular, it highlights the relevance of the Institute’s practical and industry-led approach to training.

Benchmarking MIOG-NP’s Training Model

During the engagement, the delegation gained insights into MIOG-NP’s establishment, growth and training model. They also learnt about the Institute’s approach to developing industry-relevant skills for the petroleum sector.

Additionally, the discussions allowed NPA Ghana to draw lessons from MIOG-NP’s experience in building specialised training capacity. At the same time, both institutions explored potential areas of collaboration, knowledge exchange and capacity building.

In his remarks, Mr. Andy Opoku commended MIOG-NP for its strong practical orientation and industry-driven approach to training. He also acknowledged the Institute’s commitment to developing globally relevant skills for the petroleum sector.

From Discussions to Practical Experience

Following the discussions, the delegation proceeded on a guided tour of MIOG-NP’s training facilities. The tour provided first-hand exposure to the Institute’s practical training environment and specialised facilities.

Also participating in the engagement were Mr. Simon K. Sang, Chief Business Development Officer, KPC PLC, and Mr. Alfred Mungai, Training Coordinator, Petroleum School of Studies.

Beyond the benchmarking exercise, the visit demonstrates MIOG-NP’s growing relevance in petroleum sector capacity development within the region. It also highlights the value of partnerships in strengthening Africa’s technical workforce.

Strengthening Petroleum Skills Across Africa

As institutions across Africa seek to strengthen local expertise, knowledge-sharing engagements such as this remain important. They create opportunities to exchange experiences, build partnerships and strengthen industry capacity.

Ultimately, MIOG-NP remains committed to building strategic linkages across borders. Through these partnerships, the Institute continues to advance capacity building, knowledge exchange and the development of globally recognised skills for the energy industry.
