The launch, held in partnership with the Boma International Hospitality College (BIHC), marks MIOG–NP’s bold expansion into the hospitality and tourism sector. Moreover, it reinforces the institution’s commitment to developing multi-sector skills that support Kenya’s growing economy.

The ceremony was graced by esteemed leaders, including KPC Managing Director Mr. Joe Sang, EBS; Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH; Cabinet Secretary for Energy and Petroleum Hon. Opiyo Wandayi, EGH; Principal Secretary for Tourism Mr. John Ololtuaa, CBS; BIHC Chair Hon. Joash Olum; MIOG Council Board Member Ms. Irene Wachira; MIOG Director Dr. Nancy Kosgei; and senior teams from both KPC and MIOG–NP.

The launch highlights MIOG–NP’s commitment to nurturing world-class hospitality and tourism professionals. Specifically, it leverages the fully equipped MTCC environment to deliver practical training, internationally benchmarked curricula, and career-ready opportunities for learners across Kenya and beyond.

This milestone comes at a pivotal moment for the tourism and hospitality sector. According to CS Rebecca Miano, the industry is experiencing strong recovery and expansion. Kenya aims to double international arrivals from 2.4 million to 5 million per year by 2027. This goal is supported by improved visa access, the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) system, increased airline licensing, and targeted domestic and international marketing efforts.

The tourism sector generated KSh 452 billion last year, up from KSh 377 billion in 2023, signaling its growing role as a key economic pillar. CS Miano emphasized that sustainable growth will require a skilled, globally competitive workforce. She also noted that Kenya’s diversification of tourism activities and modernization of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) infrastructure are driving new demand for professional hospitality talent.

Speaking at the launch, CS Miano stated: “A thriving tourism sector must be supported by a robust hospitality industry and a skilled workforce offering world-class services.”

She also praised Kenya’s rapid adoption of modern technologies in tourism, which recently earned the country a fourth-place ranking in Africa at the United Nations Tourism Forum in Riyadh. Additionally, she announced the establishment of a Training Revolving Fund. This fund will offer affordable loans to students pursuing hospitality and tourism programs, expanding access to high-quality training.

CS Opiyo Wandayi highlighted the importance of hospitality for socio-economic growth: “The significant growth in the sector calls for a paradigm shift in training to ensure graduates meet world-class professional standards.”

He applauded the partnership between MIOG–NP and BIHC for its potential to deliver innovative training solutions, enhance productivity, and create job opportunities for youth.

KPC Managing Director Mr. Joe Sang underlined the strategic value of the new school:

“The Morendat School of Hospitality will provide a robust curriculum and produce a skilled workforce that can support a sustainable tourism and hospitality industry.”

BIHC Chair Hon. Joash Olum echoed these sentiments:

“A world-class tourism sector must be supported by a world-class workforce. This partnership will raise standards and strengthen Naivasha’s position as a leading tourism destination.”

With the opening of the Morendat School of Hospitality, MIOG–NP takes a major step toward shaping Kenya’s future workforce. The initiative empowers youth, elevates skills, and supports a vibrant and globally competitive hospitality economy.
