WHAT IS MORENDAT?

“Morendat” is a Maasai word meaning a place of rivers. The area is located in the heart of the famous Great Rift Valley, past Naivasha town and before Gilgil, near River Malewa.

MIOG is a Centre of Excellence owned by the Kenya Pipeline Company. It was established in 2014 following a Heads of State Summit to build regional capacity in oil and gas pipeline operations.

Yes. Morendat Institute of Oil & Gas (MIOG) was upgraded to a National Polytechnic in September 2024. It now operates under the provisions of the TVET Act No. 29 of 2013 and offers accredited certificate and diploma programs aligned with industry standards.

MIOG has three campuses:

  • Nairobi Campus – Located within KPC premises in the Industrial Area, off Nanyuki Road.
  • Naivasha Campus – Located 12 km from Naivasha town and 3.42 km off the Naivasha–Nakuru Highway along Moi North Lake Road.
  • Eldoret Campus – Located within KPC premises along Mitaa Road.
  • Short Courses – Offered across various sectors, with durations ranging from 3 to 10 days depending on course content and client needs.
  • Diploma and Certificate Programs – Competency-Based Education and Training (CBET) diploma and certificate courses are available across all campuses.

Learners may choose to take courses in modules or as a full program. Upon completing each module, they receive a Certificate of Competence in that specific area, which can be built upon toward full course completion.

Yes. MIOG houses a research department, publishes the African Journal of Energy, Engineering & Training (AJEET), and offers consultancy services across various sectors.

Yes. MIOG certifies skills gained informally or through on-the-job experience in areas such as welding, electrical, instrumentation, and safety.

MIOG has established partnerships with local and international industry players in the oil and gas sector to provide attachment and job placement opportunities.

Yes. MIOG offers customized in-house training for companies in the oil, gas, transport, and utility sectors. It also supports the Northern Corridor Integration Projects (NCIP) by training participants from Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, and other countries
