MIOG-NP, in partnership with the Directorate of Occupational Safety and Health Services (DOSHS), successfully hosted the DOSHS Competitions, a build up to the World Safety and Health Day 2026. The competitions were held at the MIOG-NP Eldoret Campus on 23rd and 24th April 2026 respectively.

This year’s observance was guided by the global theme, “Ensuring a Healthy Psychosocial Working Environment,” which highlights the growing importance of mental wellbeing in the workplace alongside traditional physical safety measures. The theme emphasized the need for organizations to create safer, healthier, and more supportive working environments that address both psychological and physical risks.

The two-day event brought together teams from leading organizations across Kenya, including KenGen, Unga Group, Kenya Power, Proto Energy, among others. Participants engaged in rigorous theory assessments and highly practical emergency response simulations designed to test their readiness in real-life workplace incidents.

The First Aid Challenge focused on emergency medical response skills, including casualty assessment, resuscitation techniques, and injury management. Meanwhile, the Fire and Safety Challenge tested participants on fire prevention strategies, evacuation procedures, and rapid response coordination during simulated fire emergencies.

Speaking during the event, organizers emphasized the importance of continuous skills development in occupational safety and health, noting that such platforms play a critical role in improving workplace preparedness and reducing incidents across industries.

The challenges also served as a valuable platform for inter-organizational collaboration, allowing professionals from different sectors to exchange knowledge, benchmark best practices, and strengthen networks in occupational safety management.

Through this initiative, MIOG-NP reaffirmed its commitment to advancing safety training, capacity building, and industry collaboration in Kenya and beyond. The institution continues to position itself as a key partner in promoting occupational safety, first aid preparedness, and fire safety training excellence within the region.
